CITIZEN OF THE YEAR 2025

The following is the citation read at the Village Hall as Sheila was presented with the Citizen of the Year trophy by Parish Councillor Bob Darch at the Village Fun Day on 13th September.

“Sheila has been a supporter of St Mary’s Church for many years and has been on the PCC and Events Committee.

She has supported the Events Committee in many ways. The most important way was organising refreshments and meals at specific events such as harvest lunches and themed banquets. A first-class service was always provided by her and her band of helpers.

For the past 10 years she has assisted in running the tombola stall at St Mary’s Summer and Christmas Fairs. Her help makes these events run smoothly. She also organises the Flower Rota for St Mary’s making sure that fresh flowers are always on display.

She promotes and organises the Woolavington Hand Bell Ringers with her husband which are always popular at village events. They have been the driving force in maintaining the ringing of the Church tower bells, even getting some bells recast several years ago.

She carries out all these tasks quietly in the background and it is felt that it is a nice gesture for the village to acknowledge all the good works that she has done over many years”
