Somerset Council approve our plans
In recent months we’ve been preparing the site. This work has included ground works and the installation of concrete pads. Somerset Council has now confirmed that the plans for the next stage of the project meet the relevant planning requirements. This allows us to begin the main construction phase which is expected to continue into summer 2029.
What you can expect to see
The main construction phase will include the installation of above ground steel work and the delivery of some of the larger parts of the substation such as the super grid transformers.
We will work to minimise disruption during construction and will keep local communities informed about activities that may affect them. This includes providing updates about changes to traffic management, construction access routes, road closures or other works that could affect local journeys. Noise and vibration will be monitored throughout construction. Working hours and mitigation will be agreed with Somerset Council. We have also sent a letter to residents; a copy of this letter is attached for your awareness.
£530,000 Community Funding
As part of these works, a Community Fund of £530,000 will be available to support projects that benefit your local area. Our approach will be to work with residents, charities, community groups and elected representatives to understand what matters most and how the funding can make a lasting, positive impact. Now that main construction is underway, we will be starting to engage on this later in the Autumn
